After School Snack Program
- BMFB currently sponsors 16 after school snack sites in Alachua County.
- All sites are all located in economically challenged areas and serve children 18 and under.
- Each site provides mentoring, tutoring, and homework assistance.
- Sites are funded by the Department of Health Child Care Food Program (CCFP) or local grants
- The program provided 105,245 snacks during the 2012-2013 FY.
Summer Lunch Program
- Last summer BMFB sponsored 34 summer lunch program sites in Alachua, Levy, Gilchrist, and Marion Counties
- All sites are all located in economically challenged areas and serve children 18 and under.
- Breakfast or snack is also provided in addition to lunch.
- Sites are funded by the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Summer Food Service Program.
- The program provided 102,376 meals and snacks during the 2013 summer.
Backpack Partnerships
- BMFB partners with Food4Kids Backpack Program and the Gilchrist County Backpack Program to provide weekend meals and snack to food insecure children in Alachua, Dixie, Gilchrist and Levy counties.
- Together, the programs serve 21 community schools and served over 20,000 meals last year.
Gap Funding
Additional grant funding is used by the department to support programs that do not qualify under a current BMFB sponsor program. These additional funds may go to support a local snack or meal program or they may be used to help an organization provide food for a special event or holiday party for food-insecure children. This funding is used to ensure that we are able to meet the needs of our community in cases where the state regulated programs are not a good match.
